Stamp of Approval

Q. I am here in L-1 status. The INS extended my stay until Feb. 2001. How can I get my new visa is stamped in my passport?

A. You can apply for a visa at a US Consul in Canada or Mexico. You do not need to have your papers sent to the consul by the INS. Just bring the original INS petition approval notice and a copy of the petition with all supporting documents. If you already have L visa in your passport, you might qualify to have the visa "revalidated" by mail to the US State Department. That service is available to holders of L, O, P, H, E and I visa holders. If your visa is going to expire in 60 days or less, or if it has not been expired for more than one year. The State Department will want a current letter from your employer, addressed to the Visa Office, Dept. of State, explaining your position with the company and the nature of the business. Detailed info about visa revalidation is available on the US State Department's Web site.
