Permanent Resident by Registry

Q. I'm a substance counselor. I am trying to help a client. He came to the US nearly 30 years ago on a student visa. He has served in the Army for more than 10 years. how can he get permanent resident?

A. You client may qualify for permanent resident through a process called "registry". To qualify for registry , an applicant must prove that he or she has lived continuously in the US since before Jan. 1. 1972.

Registry applicants also must prove that they have good moral character. Registry is a simple process. Unlike most other applicant for permanent residence, registry applicant need NOT prove that they can live here without needing public assistance. Your client can apply for registry by submitting INS forms I-485 and G-325A.
