INS Expands Telephone Information Line

The INS has announced an expanded phone service. The INS says that by calling the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) at (800) 375-5283, you can get basic eligibility and "how-to" information. The center provides automated information, customer service preresentatives who use automated scripts and the opportunity to discuss the law with an immigration information officer.

You can also use the number to request a change of appointment for an interview or for fingerprinting. Naturalization applicants can call the center to report a change of address. Automated assistance is available 24 hours a day. Live service is available form 8 am to 6 pm local time.

by calling, you will get the INS's understanding of the law. That's useful, but before filing an application, get the advice of an immigration law expert. For information about a not-for-profit immigration agency near you. Call the Immigration Hotline (718) 899-4000. For the name of an expert private attorney, call the Bar Association Legal Referral Panel (212) 626-7373 or send an email to lrs@abcny.org.
