In-State Tuition Question

Q. I have an R (religious worker) visa. I'd like to attend a CUNY college, but I have been told that I have to change F-1 or J-1 visa. If I change it, I cannot get financial aid and must pay the higher out-of-state tuition for non-New York State residents. How can I get a better deal at CUNY?

A. If you can stay in "R" status, you all qualify for in-state tuition at CUNY, though not financial aid. Students in A-1, A-2, A-3, E-1, E-2, G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, G-5, H-1, H-4, I, K, L, N, R, or S status are eligible for resident tuition, despite their status as non-immigrants.
