Hard Time for Visit

Q. The INS gave my 70-year-old mother a hard time when she came to visit. How can we prevent that from happening again? My mother  lives in Poland. She has a 10-year, multiple-entry visitor's visa. On her most recent visit, she traveled with her three US-born grandchildren who had been vacationing with her. The INS airport inspector threatened to deny her entry. He eventually let her in, but only after lecturing her about coming here, "too often." Should we contact our representative to make sure the INS lets them in?

A. It sounds like your mother got a cranky immigration inspector when she last visited. Most inspectors understand that so long as your parents maintain their primary residence abroad and leave before their stay expires, they can visit as often as they like. Unless you want to complain about a particular officer, don't aggrravate yourself by contacting your congressional representative. I doubt that the INS will try to forcibly two elderly people with good iminigration records.
