Q. I did several times the fingerprinting but INS still asks me to re-do it. What can I do?

A. If you cannot provide legible fingerprints, ask about INS fingerprint waiver procedures. Under a policy announced Nov. 15, 1999, if the INS determines that an applicant "cannot be fingerprinted at all or cannot provide a single legible fingerprint," the fingerprinting officer can waive the fingerprint requirement. If the officer waives it, the INS will accept local police clearances instead of fingerprints.
