Your wife and children WILL NOT get automatic (derivative) permanent residence when the INS approves your case. Your wife can get residence through your son if she is his natural mother or his stepmother Or, you can petition for your wife, but her case will go faster if your son is the petitioner. As for your children, you should petition for them as soon as you get your residence. They can expect to wait several years before a U.S. consul calls them for an immigrant visa interview.
