Citizenship in Question

Q. My mother was born in the US. Does that make me a US citizen?

A. If you were legitimate at birth, you are a US citizen if either: your father was a US citizen and either parent lived at some time in the United States, OR, your father was not a citizen, and your mother had been in the US for 10 years before your birth, at least five of which were after she turned 14. If your were born "illegitimate," you are a US citizen if your mother had been physically present in the US for at least one year continuously anytime prior to your birth. If you are a US citizen, the fastest way to get proof is to get a US passport.
