 Adoptive and Biological Mothers

Q. My aunt adopted me and naturalized me. Can I petition for my natural mother and siblings?

A. Since you got your immigration status from your adoptive mother, you cannot petition for your biological mother. Similarly, you cannot get residence for your siblings. Readers should note that this rule is different from the rule for immigrants who got residence as stepchildren. Stepchildren CAN petition for their natural parents and siblings
