Geomancy
(Feng Shui)
To Chinese the whole of Nature is alive with
influences for good or evil, revealed to those who have made their indications a study:
the course of a stream, the trend of a mountain, the position of a clump of bamboos, the
curve of a road, the site of a grave, and a number of other things too numerous to
mention, all form the visible manifestations to the initiated eye, of Nature's future
actions, or the good and evil intentions of departed dead. The rudiments of this magic art
are to be found in ancient China, but it was not till the 20th century that it was
elaborated into the system of science. Geomancer's compasses contain the elements of their
mystic art, by aid of which they largely determine their judgements on sites and
localities.
